The growth in solar energy capacity accounts for the plummeting costs in building solar cells as both private and public sectors continue to develop new technologies in order to better harvest the sun’s energy. A new type of light sensitive nanoparticles called the collodial quantum dots are now making progress in changing the way solar energy can be harvested. Progress, too, can be accounted for the advancement in storing the harvested energy. The Molten Salt Storage Technology commissioned by a company called Novatec Solar accounts for using inorganic salts to transfer energy generated by solar photovoltaic systems into thermal energy using heat transfer fluids rather than oils. Solar plants can then operate at higher temperatures that yield higher power outputs. Utility companies would then be able to use solar power plants as base load plants. Better batteries are also being developed in which solar panels with built in batteries are now a single system rather than two separate standalone systems.

Continuous developments in the solar industry account for great discoveries that will further lower the cost of manufacturing and installing solar panel systems. Solar energy in the Philippines continues to proliferate as more homeowners turn to harvesting their own energy instead of depending on the nation’s electricity grid.
