RUF has been associated with the automotive industry and has meant quality and craftsmanship. It started in 1939 when Alois Ruf, Sr. first formed his company, “AUTO RUF”, as a general service garage. Today this same company is still operated at its original location on Mindelheimer Street in the quaint and quiet town of Pfaffenhausen, situated in southern Germany’s Allgäu region.

RUF has shown their Tesla-fighter is in fact a Porsche 911. The concept is fueled by 96 lithium-ion battery packs weighing a total of nearly 1,200 pounds. The motor offers up some 150 kW of power and seems to be an off-the-shelf motor that the company is capable of providing for automotive use.

At first glance, the motor’s 204-horsepower seems a tad low, but then you notice that its 479 lb-ft of torque makes up for that small issue. Ninety-six separate lithium iron phosphate batteries from Axeon power the motor, allowing the eRUF Model A to accelerate to sixty miles per hour in less than 7 seconds and allow for a range of up to 200 miles. From the outside, you’d never really know that something was different about this 997, except that it doesn’t produce that soul-stirring flat-six sound. This is still just a concept and its specifications are subject to change.
