These measurement methods have been used since the mid 70s, but many people regard them as approximated measurements given that they are characterized by high measurement error. Some of the data you get when you measure consumption include the time of injection of the fuel, rail high pressure/injector collector, heater chamber, environment and fuel temperature, and the rotational speed of the vehicle driving wheel. You will get variable signals like driving wheel rolling radius, real time clock, ration of the engine crank shaft, the average max and min speed, vehicle drive/stand still time, covered distance, and individual gear drive time.

Fuel consumption measurement is usually done on flow meters. There are different flow meters, among them Industrial flow meters, micro flow meters, gas flow meters, and several others. Flow meters could also be incorporated into fuel management systems and transfer pumps.
