Is Using Biodiesel As an Alternative Fuel Realistic?
By Steve Manson
So many people all over the world have been gushing about biodiesel as an alternative fuel these days. This is because there are many benefits that come with the usage of this new technology. If you are not too familiar with biodiesel as a premier alternative fuel source, then it is best for you to be acquainted.

Biodiesel is actually fuel that is made from oil of a variety of oilseed crops. These oilseed crops include soybean, corn, canola, coconut, palm kernel, safflower, and sunflower. Now, these are just the commonly used ones in the production of biodiesel for there are just about hundreds and hundreds more that you can use. This is one huge advantage that biodiesel has over regular diesel because its sources are completely renewable. After all, you can plant all of these oilseed crops in your own backyard very easily, whereas with regular diesel, once you use it up, that is the end of it already. And we all know for sure how oil reserves all over the world are depleting quite fast nowadays. Time will come when there just would not be enough oil for everyone anymore. So, why wait for that time to come when the fuel of the future, which is biodiesel, is readily available today?
So, how exactly can you create biodiesel? Oil is actually extracted by means of a press. The extracted oil is then combined with certain agents at very specific proportions. Now, you should pay attention to these proportions because they have been specifically laid out so that the right chemical reaction. The results of this particular chemical reaction that you are aiming for are biodiesel and soap. A final filtration process then has to take place to make biodiesel ready to be used as fuel. Also, the byproduct of glycerin soap can then be used after a final process of curing. You can also take things a notch higher by adding scented oils to the soap before using it.
Contrary to popular belief, biodiesel is not really new technology. It just remains new to the eyes of most people because it is just recently that biodiesel received a lot of attention. This can be attributed to the rising prices of crude oil, which has prodded ordinary citizens to find alternative fuel sources on their own.
One major advantage in using biodiesel as an alternative fuel source is the fact that it is very friendly to the environment. We all know how polluted our planet has become so this all on its own is a huge advantage already.
By Making Biodiesel At Home you can cut fuel cost, save on gas and the environment. Make sure to consult biodiesel specialists before you make that decision to switch.
