Alternative Fuel Sources and Their Importance to the World

Alternative fuel sources if we’re going to be responsible citizens of the planet should be one of the most important things we focus on. Finding new fuel sources could be a vital part of leaving this world in the best shape possible with at least some natural resources intact. The environment is being heavily polluted by emissions produced by burning petroleum products. This article will focus on alternative fuel sources and some of their possibilities.

Conventional fuel sources are getting a lot harder to extract, and using them heavily over the past century means that there’s not as much oil as there once was. Now, people are getting a lot more worried about available fuel options. There’s concern that we’ll soon run out of petroleum, and a crisis will begin. This is why the focus on alternatives is becoming so commonplace now as traditional liquid energy suppliers start to feel the squeeze.
Fortunately, there are a few new discoveries that can give us hope. If we pursue them and develop new methods, we may have found a worthwhile alternative fuel source or sources before any crisis can occur. The ideal fuel would be readily available, as well as affordable and friendly to the environment.
One popular alternative fuel is bio-diesel. This is a diesel-like product extracted from plant matter, which can be burned in an ordinary diesel engine. Another similar product is called E-85. This partly renewable product is made up of eighty-five percent ethanol and fifteen percent conventional gasoline. However, it cannot be burned by all cars.
While E-85 and bio-diesel are better than pure gasoline, they still cause pollution. Also, if all gasoline consumption were to be replaced by these fuels, we would quickly run out of available plant supplies. Corn prices have already risen, causing some people in poorer countries to be unable to buy food, and land for growing bio-diesel fuel takes away from land for producing food corn.
Another popular alternate fuel is electricity. Electric cars are one of the more viable options currently available for conserving our existing fuel. While they require the burning of fossil fuels in many cases, their electricity is generated in a central location, rather than in each individual car. That makes them much more efficient. In addition, we can produce electricity in many different ways. That means that areas with high winds, like the Midwest United States, can choose to use wind power, while areas with a lot of sunlight may produce it via solar panels. This offers an alternative or supplement to traditional coal and oil plants.
Of course, one of the ultimate alternative fuel sources is muscle power. Changing over to a bicycle or walking is one excellent way to conserve fuel and get in shape. Since fuel prices keep rising as availability continues to decrease, many people are turning to pedal power in an attempt to curtail their usage. Bio-diesel and E-85 aren’t readily available, and electric cars have their own problems. This article has tried to convey the pros and cons of alternative fuel sources so that you may make an informed decision.
